What Connects Finnentrop with Santa Ana?
Santa Ana is a city near Los Angeles with over 300,000 residents, known as a Mexican enclave and a social hotspot with many gangs. For many immigrants and refugees, especially from Central America, Santa Ana serves as the first refuge. Most arrive in the country with little to no English skills, leaving children, in particular, with almost no opportunities.
Here, we see parallels with refugees arriving in the Sauerland region. “On both sides of the Atlantic,” the Eibach Foundations initiate or support activities that provide targeted language education, especially for young people, opening up new opportunities for them.
For example, young students from KidWorks (https://kidworksoc.org/) visited the Eibach facility in Corona. During their visit, children and teenagers participated in an exciting factory tour, discovering industrial structures and processes. In addition to its collaboration with KidWorks, a non-profit organization, Eibach USA also engages in other projects with colleges in Riverside County, where it provides hands-on training. These efforts aim to emulate the German dual education system.
